Today we had a brief meeting to answer any burning questions about events and to remind students to bring in their paperwork. We also discussed shirts.

Here are the possible shirt designs. I know they are a little small here, but didn’t want to take up too much space.

I have handed out the paperwork for Science Field Day. Please return the one paper with the contact and volunteer information as soon as you can. We are working on tshirts. The envelope included event information for the categories that have been filled. We still have a couple holes that could be filled.

I have been busy trying to set up the schedule for Science Field Day, thought that I had all teams worked out, and went to make the final copy, including scheduled times…alas, this year there are several events that are happening at the same time! I don’t think this was as much as a problem last year, and we actually have two blocks of time where we have no events scheduled. I am having to make some last minute adjustments for these conflicts, and I am having to ask students to make some decisions…choosing one event over another.

I had hoped that I would send out some assignment paper work, but I will have to hold off a day or two, as I work out those details.

I have given out the event assignments, as of April 4th. Sorry that I am running so far behind on getting this taken care of! This is the first time that I have organized this, and I have been having a lot of issues going on outside of school that have kept me sort of out of sinc (ask me privately and I will be open, but I won’t post here).

Some of the students seemed a little disappointed and some weren’t given assignments because they had not turned in any paper work. We will make a few adjustments and get a couple of those kids assignments that weren’t given any…provided they turn in a paper! (Letter to me is ok rather than the form.)

I gave a slight advantage to 5th graders, as they are going on to middle school and won’t get to participate next year, and I also tried to put children together in groups where they could practice together in the most convenient manner.

I have told one child that he is considered an “alternate” after having already discussed this with his parent. One child has not come to meetings and I have not talked to yet about most likely being the alternate. One child was given the opportunity to write me a letter to request an event, but did NOT write a letter….so now I need to consider this in my final decisions.

Science Field Day is on May 17th and is mostly a fun event…if they do well, then that is fantastic, but it is mostly the experience and opportunity in participating that we are going for! This is NOT like History Day, and I don’t feel that there is a lot of pressure on kids to compete and be the winners.

Remember, if you want to compete in the egg drop, build a container that you can drop from a crane and keep your egg safe. This is noncompetitive.
